Fever

Fever is a temporary rise in body temperature, usually caused by the body’s immune system fighting an infection. It is one of the most common medical symptoms and often indicates that the body is working to defend itself against illnesses such as the flu, common cold, or other infections.

Key Points:

  • Normal body temperature is around 98.6°F (37°C). A fever is usually defined as a temperature above 100.4°F (38°C).

  • Common causes include viral infections, bacterial infections, inflammation, heat exhaustion, or reactions to medication/vaccines.

  • Symptoms may include chills, sweating, headache, body aches, fatigue, and dehydration.

  • Most fevers are mild and resolve on their own, but very high or persistent fevers may require medical attention.

🌡️ When to Seek Help:
If fever is above 103°F (39.4°C), lasts for several days, or is accompanied by severe symptoms such as breathing difficulties, chest pain, seizures, or confusion, professional medical care is necessary.
